A Prayer of Binding
May the swirling snows blind them. May the roaring winds deafen them. May Winter's Chill steal all feeling from hands that would work Harm.
In my spiritual practices as a card carrying Witch, I generally don’t like to adopt an aggressive posture, much less a visible war footing, but these are strange times we’re inhabiting. I composed the following as a prayer to Skadi, the Norse Jotunn (Giant) and Goddess associated with winter and hunting, and I share this prayer with you in the hopes that you’ll take some comfort knowing that there are fellow warriors out there on the side of goodness and compassion. Blessed Be.
Lady Skadi, Mighty Jotunn, Keeper of the Storm -
I come before you, a Witch of the Old Ways.
I come before you, your Sister in Faith. Hear my prayer!
Lady Skadi, please help me to bind the Oppressor.
Help me to bind the Thief who would steal our Joy.
May the swirling snows blind them.
May the roaring winds deafen them.
May Winter's Chill steal all feeling
From hands that would work Harm.
In confusion, may they fall upon one another,
And may the people heap scorn upon them.
Lady Skadi, Mighty Jotunn, Divine Sister -
Watch over the queer and the questioning.
Watch over the stranger and the disabled.
With all the Goddesses and Gods of Justice,
With the Goddesses and Gods of Vengeance,
Hear my prayer! Hear my prayer.
From the depths of my Witchy Heart,
I manifest a more compassionate world.
Blessed Be.
Thank you for this.
